An angler was given real reason to celebrate last week after winning a one-of-a-kind pole from angling legend, Sir Bob Nudd!
At the start of the year, four-time World Champion Bob launched a competition on his Facebook page in which anglers would have to predict his weight in the matches he fished until the end of March. Bob awarded 10 points for an exact guess, and five points for the closest, with the angler on the highest points come the end picking up a truly special prize.
“The pole is a Browning Xitan Advance Z16 special edition, embossed with unique graphics for my 30 years of loyal service to the company,” Bob explained. “I have never used it, and would expect it to be worth £4k, maybe even more.”
Over the last four months, more than 500 anglers have taken part, but it was Julian Warrington from Burton-on-Trent who claimed the top prize with a 25-point score.
“I couldn’t believe it – I was truly emotional to be the lucky winner,” he told us. “I recently met Bob with my wife, Kate, at March Railway Station, in Cambridgeshire, to pick up the pole.
“Bob is my all-time hero. I met him once before at a trade show at the Rolls Royce Pavilion in Derby with the late, great Frank Barlow. But when I saw him again this time, it was like he’d known me for years. Bob is a true gentleman – such a warm and friendly person – and a fantastic ambassador for our great sport.
“Thank you again, Sir Bob, for putting together a brilliant competition,” Julian added.
