Huge Avon barbel comes late in 'terrible season'

AFTER suffering what he describes as a ‘terrible season’ during which doubts had begun to creep in about his tactics, last week Phil White’s efforts eventually came good when he slipped his net under a 17lb 8oz Hampshire Avon barbel.

After managing to get in a swim he’d had his eye on and introducing a minimal amount of feed in the form of a PVA bag of free offerings alongside his boilie hookbait, his session was drawing to a close when he had a few delicate taps on the rod tip, which he thought were caused by chub. However, he then lifted into a heavy fish that ploughed around in the flow.

Phil didn’t fully grasp the size of the fish until he lifted it on to the waiting mat, where he was over the moon to see his scales indicate that he’d landed a new personal best!
