Father and son bank lake’s two biggest carp at the same time

Whenever we go carp fishing, we always imagine catching the biggest fish in the lake as we travel to the venue. Some anglers do everything they can to target that one special fish, while others are content catching whatever comes along, hoping the lake’s ‘biggun’ eventually finds its way into their net.

The odds of catching the lake’s largest fish are usually slim. So imagine how much less likely it is to catch the two biggest fish on the complex at the same time! Yet that’s exactly what father and son duo David and Alby Edgley achieved during a session at Warren Lake in Essex, while enjoying a social on the bank together.

"We arrived at the lake on Wednesday morning and started setting up in a swim that Alby thought looked promising," David told us.

"It was certainly the right choice, as throughout the night we caught eight fish, with the biggest weighing 31 pounds. That alone would’ve made the session, but what happened next completely blew us away," he added.

As dusk approached, 16-year-old Alby's alarm peeled off yet again and after a 20-minute battle, a huge carp rolled into his net. It soon became apparent to the pair it was the biggest known fish in the lake called 'The Long Grate' weighing 41lb 12oz.

"When we realised which fish it was, Alby nearly cried from pure excitement. We were in disbelief, and I was overjoyed to share the moment with my son, it doesn't get much better than that," David said.

"Unbelievably, as we were preparing for the photos, my alarm went into meltdown. After a long battle, another big fish rolled into the net, and Alby looked inside and said, ‘Dad, you’ve got Blackspot, it's the second biggest fish in the lake!’"

"Oh my God, what a magical day for my son and me, bracing the two biggest fish in the lake at the same time! You couldn’t write it, the odds must be millions to one."

"It was a truly magical moment, captured in one photo that we’ll cherish for the rest of our lives. Fishing can be amazing at times!"
