England is set to host its first international match fishing tournament event in years.

Despite countless successes on both the team and individual front in recent times, the nation has struggled to find venues that are suitable to stage such prestigious tournaments.

All that will come to end next month though, when Birmingham’s Barston Lakes plays host to the first ever European Feeder Cup.

The first European Feeder Cup will take place at Marston Lakes next month.

The five-day competition will see England go up against some of the best feeder fishing nations on the planet, with Belgium, Italy, Ireland and Germany amongst those in the eight-team field.

Angling Times columnist Steve Ringer is almost certain to get selected to represent England and writing on his Facebook page he said: “This is something to look forward to - a chance to fish for England on home soil against some of the best feeder teams in Europe, including current world champions Hungary.

Barston Lakes will be hosting the event.

“It looks set to be an awesome five days so if you’re in the area it’s well worth popping down to have a look.”

The tournament will be fished to FIPS rules, meaning Method feeders and pellets won’t be permitted, with all hooklengths measuring 50cm or more. Spectators will be welcome to visit the venue and watch the action unfold in what is almost certain to be a fantastic spectacle for our sport.
