It's been a quiet few weeks for the big fish anglers of Britain, with low river levels and the usual late summer lull both impacting catches. But Daniel Bouskila recently enjoyed a special session targeting dace on a small southern river, where he landed this fine fish of 1lb 1oz, backed up by numerous others between 10oz and 15oz.
Arriving around midday armed with maggots, casters and his trotting tackle, he started to feed a swim and soon saw large dace hitting his bait on the drop.

Shallowing up his rig slightly, Daniel trotted a maggot through multiple times but could see the dace darting up to his hookbait before quickly turning away. Feeling that a more subtle presentation was required, he changed to a caster, buried his hook in it, and on the first trot through connected with a good fish weighing 15oz.
After re-feeding, he saw other big dace taking the free offerings, and what followed was a spell of the best dace fishing he’s ever experienced. The 1lb 1oz fish came on his second trot down, and by the time he’d ran out of bait, Daniel had amassed a truly special bag.
