While it’s always great to take your kids fishing, more often than not they usually end up catching the biggest fish of the trip. Whether it’s down to them not overthinking where they cast or how they present a bait is unclear, but we hear countless stories from parents being humbled after their children completely outfish them.

This is precisely what happened to Anwer Ismail on a recent trip to Avington Fishery, when his daughter ended up catching a monster brownie, twice the size of any trout he has managed to cautch in his angling life.

“My daughter, Lily, joined me for a trip to Avington Fishery, in Hampshire, famed for its supersized trout," Anwer told us.

“First up, I lost the fish of a lifetime, weighing around 8lb, and while I was sulking over the loss, Lily had a go and hooked and landed this 14lb 4oz brownie! It beats my PB by over 7lb."

“We’re very competitive, so I didn’t know whether to laugh or cry!”
