With the rise in temperature that comes with spring, many angler turn their attention to tench. These fish are synonymous with the time of year and they are usually at their heaviest weights, so if you want to catch a real monster, now is the time to do it! While the fishing has been quite prolific this year, with plenty of tench being caught, reports of double figure fish have been thin on the ground.

Due to their rarity, a tench over 10lb is a fish many anglers will go their entire lives without seeing, let alone catching, so you can imagine the elation when 13-year-old Freddie Sadd banked an enormous 12lb 1oz tench from a South East gravel pit.

IF YOU WANT A REALISTIC CHANCE OF CATCHING A BIG TENCH, HEAD TO ONE OF THESE WATERS...

A fish to remember for Freddie!

"Freddie has been targeting carp on a low-stock water near our home. There aren’t many fish in the lake, so it can be a real challenge, but he absolutely loves it," his dad told us.

"On this particular session, after a few tough weeks angling, he decided to change tactics and fish solid bags with pellets, hoping to tempt one of the lake’s other residents into a bite," he added.

"Unbelievably, he had a take not long into the session and after playing what we assumed was a small carp, this enormous tench popped up, we couldn’t believe our eyes!"

"It’s the biggest tench we’ve ever seen and might well remain his PB for a very long time. It was an incredible fish to witness, I’m absolutely made up for him!"
