Despite modern methods of angling tending to dominate crucian captures in recent years, the old methods that used to work are still just as effective. Sometimes, going back to what we know works can be a massive edge, especially when everyone else on the lake is using the same feeder/carp fishing tactics.

Martyn Skoyles proved the float still has its place in specimen crucian fishing with this superb 4lb 2oz specimen from Cherry Lakes in the Cotswolds.

He had to contend with floating willow fluff, but a slight change in the surface drift enabled Martyn to fish his 2.5AA crystal waggler effectively for an hour, with the bite coming during this period on a hookable pellet.
