Martin Walker has enjoyed some spectacular barbel sport on the River Trent’s Gunthorpe Fishery during two sessions in the space of a week, landing a pair of seventeen-pounders and no shortage of back-up fish.
During his first trip, landed a total of 23 barbel on boilies - 17 of which were doubles - in 48 hours. The biggest was a specimen of 17lb 8oz.
He returned six days later and this time decided to roll meat. After his first cast, Martin added a little more weight to his rig so he could roll his hookbait through more slowly, and on the very next cast hooked into a powerful fish.
That one tipped the scales at 17lb 15oz and capped a memorable spell of fishing on the midlands waterway.
