We all know that chub can be tempted by just about any bait you can imagine, but on a recent session, Joshua Cliff pushed their tastes to the edge when he landed this fish on a mouse fly, fished on the surface in the dead of night!

Inspired by videos of people ‘mousing’ for large trout in New Zealand and the US, he and a few friends tied a few rodent-like flies and set out in search of a chub.

“In the first pool I made a cast, and as soon as the ‘fly’ hit the water, the surface erupted as a fish instantly hit it,” Joshua told us.

“The noise was incredible, and after a short tussle I had a huge-framed chub in the net. Although clearly spawned out, it weighed 5lb 7oz and was certainly an interesting capture!”

"This was tied on a 1/0 hook using rabbit Zonker strip for the tail and winter roe deer hair for the body. My first ever attempt at something like this."

This capture further proves that a hungry chub will be willing to eat just about anything that crosses its path!
