Smashing a lake record once is a fine achievement itself, but Matt Bullas took things to another level when he beat a venue best twice in a week!

Targeting Pines Lake at Oswestry’s Blackthorn Fishery, the keen carp angler went with the aim of beating his own 28lb personal best.

The lake record stood at 31lb 9oz when he first arrived, but he soon upped that in style when he slipped the net under a fish known as 'The Scorpion' that tipped the dial on the scales round to 35lb 5oz.

He wasn’t done there though, as he went on to land a fish named 'Big J' that weighed in at a colossal 44lb 12oz.

Over the course of two sessions, Matt banked 14 fish which included another brace of 30lb-plus specimens.

The Bait Room pop-ups fished over an area lightly baited with crushed boilies and pellets did the damage and a clearly elated Matt said: “I was hopeful of a successful few days when I started, but I couldn’t have dreamed that it would work out so well for me. Breaking the lake record was special, but to do it again was off the scale!”

Blackthorn Fishery is home to two waters, with Pines exclusively available to whoever has the lake’s lodge booked. For more details on the complex visit www.blackthornfishery.co.uk
