Beast of a perch is lucky number 13 for Yorkshire angler

Typically, perch are targeted close to features, but Steve Frost took this 4lb 8oz beast from an open-water swim on the River Wharfe.

He was targeting a stretch that had previous form for a small shoal of very large perch, and cast a double lobworm hookbait into what was a low and clear river. The bite came quickly, and the rod-tip slammed round powerfully.

At first, Steve wondered if he’d hooked a decent chub, but was pleased this brute of a perch was the culprit.

It’s his 13th ‘four’ from a Yorkshire river, and was taken on a simple link leger, fished on 5lb Maxima straight through to a size 4 hook.
