A river in full flood isn’t what many predator anglers want to see, but if there’s one species that can be relied upon to feed in the conditions, it’s zander.

The species are coloured- water specialists, a fact that Christopher Mendelsohn recently took full advantage of on the River Trent, when he landed this 15lb 10oz personal best ‘zed’ after finding the river carrying lots of extra water.

Fishing a roach deadbait on a long wire trace, Christopher cast to a slack water area using a 4oz flat pear lead.

After first landing three zander between 3lb and 8lb, he hooked into something far bigger, with the fish putting up a great fight in the heavy flow before he was able to safely net his prize.

IF YOU HAVE NEVER CAUGHT A ZANDER, HERE ARE FIVE GREAT TIPS TO HELP YOU.
