Dave Brown has been crowned the winner of the Canal Masters event…but the eventual red letter day could have so easily been the biggest disaster of his angling career.

Having drawn a fancied peg during the event on the Shropshire Union Canal around Market Drayton, he soon had his trolley loaded for the journey down the towpath.

Disaster soon struck though, with Dave’s trolley tumbling into the canal, taking all his gear with it!

A salvage operation was launched, and after a period of scouring the bottom and getting soaked to the bone, he managed to get everything back on dry land.

Slightly flustered by the unfortunate incident, he was forced to regroup in order to give himself a shot against 36 other talented canal anglers.

A solid start allowed Dave to put the catastrophe behind him and the action never slowed up, with the Preston Innovations-backed star bringing 29lb 3oz to the net, with plenty of skimmers and bonus chub contributing to the haul.

It proved to be enough to scoop the glory, with Dave walking away with a £2,500 payday as reward for his efforts.
