It was way back 2013 when Adam Perna first started fishing The Fens for rudd, and after 12 years, he’s just landed his first one over 3lb, in the shape of this thickset 3lb 3oz fish.
Caught alongside a handful of other ‘twos’ on the same trip, it beat Adam’s previous best for the species by 7oz and is the latest in a long line of exceptional fish to be reported from the region since the start of the season.
Adam’s session started at dusk, when he set off along an Anglian river in his inflatable boat. Fishing until 2am, he landed numerous rudd to over 2lb using a waggler fitted with a Starlight attachment.
He then moved to another area where chose to fish from the bank, and starting at 3:45am, fished for six hours until temperatures began to soar.
However, just before the wind picked up and he was about to call it a day, he managed to sneak out the biggest fish of his session. A simple crystal waggler set-up fished with a slow-sinking breadflake hookbait did the trick.
