A renowned big fish angler proved his intelligence isn’t just reserved for working out how to outwit his quarry when he was crowned champion of a prime-time ITV quiz show.

Millions of viewers tuned in as Midlands-based angler Clint Walker went up against 99 other hopefuls in attempt to win The 1% Club.

Hosted by famous comedian Lee Mack, it sees the contestants having to answer a series of questions that gradually increase in difficulty and if they get one incorrect, they are out of the game.

Clint battled through various rounds and was the last man standing, leading to him being called from the tiered seating areas to the main floor with Lee.

That instantly gave him a £10,000 payday, but he was then asked whether he would like to answer the 1% question – a question that in theory only 1% of the country would be able to answer. Get it right and he would walk away with the £97,000 jackpot, but get it wrong and he would leave empty handed.

He decided to stick with the £10,000 and his decision was soon vindicated as upon seeing the final question, he revealed he wouldn’t have got the correct answer!
