Angler banks enormous perch on surprising method

Big perch however are truly magnificent fish to behold, as there is something about their appearance when they get to specimen proportions that is really striking. When anglers think of targeting these fish, tactics like lure fishing, big worms or live baits are often the go to, using the predatory nature of the perch to their advantage.

However, every now and again, big perch are caught on unusual tactics that throw the rule book out, challenging what we think we know about the best ways to catch them. While fishing on a family holiday, young Maison Bates banked a giant perch that would be the envy of any angler, and the way he caught it might just surprise you.

“We had booked a trip to Clawford Lakes, in Devon, where my son Maison was doing a bit of casual fishing in the margins, using a Method feeder with a maggot hookbait,"

“When he went to pack his rod away, he reeled in and realised he had a fish on!"

“When this 5lb perch surfaced, he was shaking in disbelief! We didn’t know the venue held such creatures!”
