450-mile drive is worth it for Dan's best grayling

Dan Woolcott worked extra hard for this new personal-best grayling weighing 3lb exactly.

He endured a nine-hour, 450-mile drive to ‘a mighty Scottish river’. There, over three days’ fishing, he also banked grayling of 2lb 10oz, 2lb 8oz and 2lb 2oz alongside the three-pounder, before making the long journey home to Kent.

The three smaller fish fell to trotted maggots, while the largest took a trotted dendrobaena worm with the tail nipped off. Dan beat them all using size 16 Drennan spade end Acolyte maggot hooks to 3.3lb Supplex fluorocarbon hooklinks.
