Pole fishing is often associated with smaller species, but Alan Hodgson showed just how versatile the method can be after banking a huge 20lb carp on one!

The impressive fish provided a memorable battle and serves as a reminder that big carp are never entirely out of the question, even when targeting fish on lighter gear.

“On a recent trip to Brafferton Fishery, in North Yorkshire, I caught this cracking common carp of 22lb 10oz.

“I was fishing the pole at the time and was pleased to be on a strong 16-18 elastic and a size 14 hook!

“The fish is my PB, and fell to a luncheon meat hookbait."
