NEW company Edge Tackle has been developed by the experienced team of James Robbins and Richard Norris.

James has worked in the tackle industry for more than two decades and is the driving force behind online rod and pole match brand Cadence.

James Robbins

Richard, who may not be quite as well known to the wider public, has played his part in producing a tackle item used by all during his 31-year tenure as a director at Drennan International.

Together, James and Richard can boast over 50 years’ high-level experience in the tackle industry.

Edge Tackle will run in tandem with Cadence, using the same online-only sales presence, although Edge Tackle will focus its attentions on accessories and terminal tackle items rather than rods, reels and poles.

HOOKLENGTH LINES

FLUOROCARBON PURE 50M

This is pure fluorocarbon, not simply a coated nylon line. It’s harder and denser than nylon, so it sinks quickly and is ideal for feeder fishing hooklengths.

Its standard stretch factor gives excellent cushioning, even in its lowest diameters, and a clear refractive index makes it almost invisible in water. Diameters 0.7mm-0.30mm

Price: £4.95 - £5.25

FLUOROCARBON PURE 50M

PREMIUM MONO 50M HOOKLENGTH

This is formulated to achieve maximum strength in relation to diameter, with a standard stretch ideal to help with absorbing the lunges of fish, especially under the rod-tip. It doesn’t want to unexpectedly ‘bottom out’ but gives the angler a critical degree of ‘feel’ so that the playing technique can be adjusted accordingly. It’s suitable both as a mainline and a superb hooklength line, casts like a dream, and peels off of the reel’s spool superbly. Available on 100m and 300m spools in diameters 0.75m-0.26m.

Price: £3.49 - £10.95

REEL LINES

FLOAT MONO

Float Mono has been formulated to do just that. It will help when striking at distance and ‘mending the line’ when floatfishing. A special slick coating means it leaves the surface cleanly and quickly. It also has reduced stretch, making it ideal for long trotting situations, while still retaining enough ‘give’ to help absorb the lunges of big fish.

A soft and supple line, it is tough and long-lasting. It ties up extremely well and can be used with a wide variety of common knots from grinner, to Palomar, to half blood, water and knotless knots. Sizes 0.14mm-0.22mm, on 100m and 300m spools.

Price: £3.95 - £8.95

FLOAT MONO

SINKING MONO

This reel line is for use in all feeder and bomb work, or for floatfishing when a sinking line is required. Thanks to a unique extrusion process it can be ‘cut’ under the water’s surface with just a quick flick of the rod-tip. This is useful when fishing close to islands or features or when the wind dictates a sunken line. Sinking Mono is a medium-stretch line with slightly less give than Float or Premium lines. It does, though, retain enough cushioning to cope with heavyweight hauling sessions. Ideal for long distance casts, its special formulation is well suited to the rigours of repeated casting and retrieval of all types of feeders. Sizes 0.18mm-0.28mm.

Price: £4.25 - £9.50

SINKING MONO

SPECIMEN MONO

Perfect for big-fish work in demanding situations, this is essentially a sinking line, but it can be made to float if coated or sprayed. Its medium stretch lends itself to longer distance casting tactics.

Even harder and more abrasion-resistant than Edge Tackle’s Sinking Mono, Specimen Mono will tackle everything from barbel in rock-strewn rivers to specimen carp. A good tip when using this line is to soak it before use and during your session, as its hygroscopic properties allow it to become even suppler and softer, with a greater abrasion-resistance. Sizes 0.23mm-0.33mm.

Price: £8.95 - £14.95
