A junior who in the past has received rave reviews from some of the sport’s biggest names, including Des Shipp and Brad Lucas, showed more signs that he is destined for the top by finishing runner-up in the Division Two National.
Dylan Egan only turned 13 in January, making him eligible for his first National appearance this year, and teamed up with the CRT Let’s Fish Emerging Prospects Blue squad to compete.
Drawn on peg 22 in the Queen Adelaide section of the Great Ouse, Dylan made a solid start on the long pole, fishing over a bed of groundbait before switching to a 4m whip line to keep fish going into the net. That helped him to a 7kg 150g weight, which handed him a section victory and second place overall.
“I love fishing natural waters, and to come second and bag a silver medal in my first-ever Division Two National is incredible,” said Dylan.
“There were 230 great anglers fishing and, while I always believe in my ability, I can’t say I expected to finish so high up individually!”
Gold went to Mark Campion, who had 8kg 275g of roach and perch from peg 4 on the Potters section of the Ouse.
