AN after-work evening session was all that Jason Astolfi needed to catch this monster barbel from the Warwickshire Avon.

Having already landed a few chub, Jason was just settling down again in his swim when he got a ‘one-toner’ on his bite alarm. Knowing that he was probably connected to a new PB from the way that the powerful fish was bullying line from the spool, Jason revealed that he tried to stay calm while playing his prize in the moonlight.

Two other anglers witnessed the capture and confirmed the weight of the fish as 16lb 3oz. Jason, a regular down the seasons on the Warks Avon, banked what he described as his ‘fish of a lifetime’ using a double tuna boilie hookbait presented over four handfuls of free offerings.
