THE biggest River Trent barbel of the season has been landed in the shape of this 19lb 4oz giant, which fell to Gareth Bradshaw.

Fishing at Gunthorpe Lock Fishery on the bang-in-form river, the Nottingham angler had a twitchy bite on his legered halibut pellet hookbait and initially suspected floating weed or a small bream was the cause.

However, when he struck, he was met with powerful lunges, and for the next 20 minutes Gareth battled the fish before his new personal best finally succumbed to the net. It came on his second day fishing the area and was the result of his first bite.
