Rivers up and down the UK are more than capable of throwing up a few surprises, and a lot of the time, you genuinely can't be certain what will take your bait next.
With some time at his disposal, Dan Winfield made his way down to his local river and ended up banking a fish he wasn't even aware was in the river, in the shape of this 11lb 7oz bream.
“With a few hours to spare, I headed to the River Kennet and picked a swim where a snag created a slack, into which I cast my cheesepaste hookbait. The tip slammed over and I struck into a hard-fighting fish.
“When it surfaced, I was in shock – had I lost it, I’d have sworn it was a barbel! It’s a specimen I never thought would be living in a small river like the Kennet.”
