Chris Price couldn't believe his eyes when he landed this 8lb 8oz bass, whilst fishing some 10 miles upstream from the sea on a West Sussex river.

He told Angling Times they story of the shock capture:

“Fishing a tidal stretch of the River Adur, I tried for a bream but after only having a few small ones I switched to my usual target – big perch," he said.

"Casting across to a feature on the far bank, feeding chopped worm and caster with a king prawn on the hook, I had a few eels before the rod flew round.

“The fish pulled hard, and I thought that if it was a perch, it was a record! But when it finally came to the net, I realised it was this 8lb 8oz bass.

"Unbelievable! I’ve heard of sea trout and mullet being caught in the river, but never bass – we’re 10 miles upstream of the sea! The fish was rested and released after a few quick snaps.”
