ROACH don’t come much better looking than this 3lb 4oz beauty landed by Cotswolds angler Matthew Wood.

With the nights drawing in, Matthew turned his attention to the redfins of a local gravel pit and targeted the lake over a few short evening sessions after finishing work at nearby tackle shop, The Tackle Den.

Having landed a 1lb fish on his first tip, he had the confidence to return, and over the next two evenings he managed a string of roach, weighing 2lb 4oz, 2lb 10oz and 3lb 1oz, plus the 3lb 4oz stunner.

The biggest did all its fighting under the rod-tip, leaving Matthew with shaking hands. It’s a PB, and fell to maggot feeder rigs fished heli-style.
