SOMERSET based angler Chris Martin was left stunned when fishing a water close to his home he connected with a dream 2lb 12oz roach.
“I’ve been fishing the local lake mainly to fill the time between the end of the river season and the start of my tench fishing campaign," he told us.
“I knew there were some big roach in the water, having seen carp anglers catch them by accident to 2lb.
“After extensive plumbing up, I targeted an area I thought might be a patrol route, and I was proved right!
“I opted for maggot feeder tactics, with a double maggot hookbait. That was the right decision because, although I had to wade through a lot of smaller fish, I managed to get among the larger residents eventually, landing fish of 2lb, 2lb 11oz and a new personal best of 2lb 12oz, which I couldn’t believe the size of when it surfaced!”
