Single corn hookbait fools HUGE bream

Single corn hookbait fools HUGE bream

REALLY big bream are notoriously hard creatures to target by design, but one man who has a knack of doing just that is Lee McManus.

This 17lb 11oz specimen is the latest giant ‘slab’ landed by the seasoned all-rounder over the past few seasons, and he banked it after arriving at a Midlands lake early in the morning and targeting spots he’d previously caught from. But rather than piling in bait, as many bream anglers do, Leicestershire-based Lee cast out just single grains of corn, with rubber casters as hair stops, as he didn’t want to risk spooking any fish that might be present.

The softly-softly approach worked a treat, and several hours later, the bait he had cast down the back of a gravel bar in deep water was taken by the 17-pounder. Lee added another fish of 14lb the same morning.
