Fishing always has the ability to surprise us when we least expect it, which is part of what makes it so exciting to anglers and why they often spend years of their lives on the bank.
While on a recent carp session, Byron Ivall was resetting his rods for the evening, but made a mis-cast while getting one of his rigs back onto the spot he was fishing. Unhappy with where it was positioned, he began to reel it in, when around halfway back, he suddenly felt the weight on the end of his line become much heavier.
Confused, he assumed he had reeled into a weedbed, that was until the end of the rod began twitching as though he had hooked a fish.
"It was the most unusual feeling, like most anglers I have reeled in thousands of times and never had something like this happen," Byron said.
"I knew there was a fish on the end, but I just assumed I must have foul-hooked something as I was reeling in."
"You can imagine my surprise when a cracking perch popped up with my krill boilie hanging out of its mouth."
"It was hooked fair and square, and at 3lb 15oz it was the highlight of my session. The way I caught it made it all the more memorable, and I don't think I'll ever catch anything like that again."
