Anglers stunned after banking huge perch on the pole

To celebrate their wedding anniversary this year, anglers Andrew and Michelle decided to head to Elmbridge Fishery in Droitwich. The husband-and-wife duo opted to stay in one of the Safari Tents located on the fishery, which gave them direct access to the lake from their balcony.

The lake they were fishing is primarily known for its larger carp, and while they did manage to land a few, it wasn’t those fish that made the trip truly memorable. Instead, it was this superb 4lb 7oz perch that turned their anniversary session into something really special.

“The session started well, and we had soon landed a few carp on the heavier gear we’d brought, so Michelle decided to fish for the smaller species using a pole with mixed maggots as bait,” Andrew told us.

“It wasn’t long before Michelle started catching a few of the usual smaller silverfish, and then I just remember the elastic streaming out of the end of the pole,” he recalled.

“I thought it might have been a carp, but after an excellent battle she managed to play the fish to the surface, and we were both shocked to be greeted by an enormous perch!"

“Michelle didn’t believe me when I said they could grow that big, and she was completely flabbergasted by the sheer size of the striped beauty lying in our net."

“She was absolutely over the moon, as was I, to see her catch it, and it rounded off a great evening’s fishing!”
