IT’S been a phenomenal season for catches by youngsters, but the level of determination shown by seven-year-old Mia Rose in landing this 36lb 5oz sturgeon is hard to top.
Fishing with her dad, Ashley Gaynor, her hair-rigged Spam was picked up by the beast on a trip to Brookfield Fishery in Warwickshire. “Mia is a fantastic angler and did so well playing the sturgeon on her own,” Ashley told us.
“I’ve got it all on film, and my advice was to just keep hold of the rod!
“It was a windy day, but Mia battled through, although the fish powered off every time it came close to the net,” he added.
“Eventually, it was ours and, as you can see from the look on Mia’s face, she was ecstatic about her catch!”
