PERCH fanatic Matt Atkins has banked yet another huge stripey – this time a 5lb 4oz fish from a large gravel pit. It’s the second perch the Leighton Buzzard angler has had over 5lb this year, with his first coming from the River Thames back in October.

Usually a fan of fishing with livebaits, this time around Matt adopted a different approach, opting to use a floatfished dead perch on a paternoster rig that he twitched back towards the bank every 10 minutes.

It didn’t take long to work, either, with the five-pounder engulfing the bait before Matt could even get his rod on the bite alarm!

This is a tactic he’ll probably be trying again soon, as it also accounted for another fine perch of around 4lb during the same session.
