Both 11-year-old angler Franco Rich and his dad Jono were left stunned after landing a giant canal pike during a short session on the Chesterfield Canal. The incredible catch came after Franco’s float-fished roach deadbait proved irresistible to the superb 28lb 2oz predator, leading to one of their most unforgettable fishing trips together.
The duo had already landed a PB of 15lb 6oz in the same session before moving to a different area in search of another bite.
“Franco noticed a scattering of baitfish,” Jono told us.
“He cast to the area, and within a few minutes, his float bobbed a few times before setting off at a steady rate of knots.”
After a high-energy battle, Franco soon had it in the net.
“He was extremely happy with it, and I was one very proud dad,” added Jono.
