The change in Lockdown rules came just at the right time for Kevin Sanders, who started his crucian campaign in fine style with this 3lb 8oz specimen.
“Like most anglers, I’ve been waiting for the travelling restrictions to ease, and with milder weather forecast I hoped that the crucians would be waking from their winter slumber," he told us.
“But arriving at the lake before first light, I was surprised by just how cold it was. A strong wind was blowing, but as I knew it’d warm up, I chose a swim on the end of the wind, hoping the crucians would arrive.
“Fishing a Method feeder with a small banana-flavoured pop-up, I had a slow start to the session before after a while one of my rods absolutely ripped off.
“From the speed of the take, I thought it would be a tench, but as soon as I started playing it I could tell it was a crucian. After netting this 3lb 8oz fish I was delighted, and it was also a new PB, which was the icing on the cake.”
