UPPER TAMAR Lake lived up to its reputation as the country’s best silverfish venue after a sensational festival at the end of last month where the fishery record was smashed with 74lb 11oz of roach and skimmers.
Located on the Devon and Cornwall border, the 81-acre venue is much-loved by Britain’s natural water anglers, many of whom make the long pilgrimage south each year to sample its exceptional fishing.
This year, in the feeder-only West Fest, Dynamite and MAP-backed Matty Pillay broke the venue record after landing 137 skimmers and 20 roach. But his weight wasn’t a one-off, with England Feeder Team member Gareth Lambert taking top spot with a total of 176lb over the four days.
Organiser Graham West was blown away by the quality of fishing:
“I was asked what weight I reckoned would win, and guessed 150lb over the four days, but Tamar showed us just how good it is by destroying my prediction!”
