WHAT was only meant to be a quick look around his local Bawburgh Fisheries resulted in the capture of this 10lb 7oz tench for former Drennan Cup winner Darryn Stolworthy.
“With a few hours free, I had a wander down to Bawburgh Fisheries near my Norfolk home. I said to myself, if I don’t see anything, I won’t fish, but I stumbled across a group of tench showing," he told us.
“Rather than put a load of bait out, I just cast maggot feeders with worm hookbaits over the top and then sat and waited to see if there’d be any response. It’s a tactic that really works at this time of year – simply casting at showing fish.
“I landed a carp and three tench, topped by this one at 10lb 7oz. It’s blind in one eye – probably why it picked my rig up! But the same fish has been caught at over 12lb.
"It’s incredibly long, measuring just over 25ins.”
