GARY Knowles’ long-term ambition of a 15lb-plus zander from the lower Severn has been realised with this 15lb 12oz beast.
The Warrington, Cheshire, rod can’t always fish when conditions are ideal, and that was the situation last weekend when he arrived to find levels dropping only slightly after floods.
Gary’s only bite of the day came when his legered roach was picked up and a very slow run developed.
A lack of headshakes indicated it wasn’t a pike and after a ponderous fight he saw a white belly break the surface. Once it was in the net, he realised it was the fish he was after.
