“This 14lb 13oz barbel came from a stretch of my local River Colne and equals my best for the venue, although this one was totally empty and will probably weigh 16lb-plus in winter.

“I’ve been regularly baiting the stretch since the back end of last season and all summer with a homemade milk protein bait. I also had one weighing 13lb 5oz the previous week, and that one came on a boilie fished on a size 8 hook and 20lb semi-stuff hooklink.

“I loosefed half-a-dozen pieces of paste and the bite came in the early hours of the morning.”
