One of the great advantages of being an all-round angler is that whatever conditions you’re faced with, there’s usually still an opportunity to get out on the bank with a realistic chance of success. Specimen ace Matthew Fernandez proved just that recently, as with his local rivers in flood, a swift change of plans saw him switch to a stillwater, where he was rewarded with this cracking perch.
“With the rivers a bit out of sorts, I went to my local syndicate lake to have a go for the perch.
“I only had a few hours free and, keeping things simple, fished a whole prawn soaked in Dynamite Baits predator liquid beneath a MAP pole float and fed chopped prawns and red maggots. Around an hour later, the float slid slowly under and I connected with a hard-fighting fish.
“After a heart-in-mouth fight, I landed my first perch of the winter in the form of this lovely 4lb 4oz specimen.”
