Personal best smashed with cracking river perch

This season has seen some cracking perch banked from our rivers. Whether there has been a resurgence of big fish or an increase in anglers targeting them is unclear, but whatever the reason, if you want to catch a big perch from the river, now is the time to get out there and catch one!

Keir Robinson has been putting a massive amount of effort into improving his perch fishing recently, and on his latest session, he was rewarded with a superb stripey.

“I fished the River Idle the other day, which is 30 minutes from my home in Doncaster.

“I’ve targeted many different species on the waterway, but this trip was only my second in search of perch.

“Presenting a worm under the float and steadily feeding chopped worms in worm meal groundbait, it had been a hard day’s fishing, with little to show in the way of bites. I was targeting a small slack next to a tree, and I felt that the conditions were good.

“And they were, because at the end of the session I was rewarded with this 4lb 1oz perch. It eclipses my previous PB by 13oz and is a fish I’m delighted with, as I’ve put a lot of work into my perch fishing.”
