Michael Bottomley, had a session to remember recently when he banked one of the biggest carp in Devon during a week long session with some friends.
Fishing at the renowned Furzebury complex, things weren't going his way, and after three blank nights , a change of tactics brought about a change in fortune, which eventually saw Dropscale, a 51lb 4oz mirror carp, laying at the bottom of his landing net.
"After arriving at Furzebray for our yearly booking on Island Lake, we were all looking forward to a good week on the bank," Micheal told us.
"Unfortunately the drawbag wasn't particularly kind to me, but somehow I still ended up with a peg I was more than happy to spend the session in."
"Things started off slowly very slowly for me, and despite the presence of a few fish in the area, I felt something needed to change in order to get them feeding."
Keeping to the spots that he had found, Michael decided to apply a lot more bait to the area as the lighter approach he had started with just didn't seem to get any response from the carp in the lake. It didn't take long after baiting the spot with more boilies for his results to improve, banking the 'Mint Common' at 37lb not long after implementing the change. Full of confidence, he got his rod back out with a good helping of bait around it and, before long, it burst into life again.
"The next fish from the spot blew me away, as I landed the enormous Dropscale at 51lb 4oz, it is the fish everyone wants to catch from the lake and I couldn't believe I had it in the net."
"I was using a naked chod with a Pineapple Hell pop-up proving too much to resist. The rest is history making memories to last a lifetime great company top venue, happy days," he concluded.
