A charity fishing match held at a venue in Hampshire has been deemed a total success by both the organiser and anglers involved, with hundreds raised for The Thames Hospice.

The match was held at the prolific Greenridge Farm Fishery near Southampton, with organiser Lewis Balsdon confirming it will be the first of many 'Off The Hook' charitable events in the south of England.

ANGLING CAN BE SO POSITIVE FOR MANY REASONS. HERE'S WHY FISHING IS GOOD FOR YOU AND OTHERS.

"Despite the awful weather, we had 24 brave and enthusiastic anglers attend the event. All those who fished are experienced match anglers from the area, which made for a great match, but anyone is welcome in the future," said Lewis.

"The venue fished really well, with the top three anglers on the day weighing over 200lb each. Dan Blackwell picked up the win with 236lb of carp."

Lewis explained why raising money for the charity is so important to him....

"My mum passed away in December and the Thames Hospice provided really great care for her. I just had to do something after the wonderful support me and my family received."

"Thanks to everyone involved and to those anglers who donated their section prize money, we raised a total of £332, which I know will be gratefully received by the charity."
