AFTER a slow start to a session on the River Thames in Buckinghamshire, Ian Wynter drove 25 minutes to a new stretch upriver and was rewarded for his perseverance with this 7lb 11oz chub.

Fishing an 18mm ‘custom bait’ below a 28g bomb wrapped in a halibut and cheese-flavoured paste, Ian got a ‘one-toner’ of a bite within an hour of casting out and knew he was into a good fish.

He wasn’t sure what species it was to begin with, but when he glimpsed a big chub in the depths he knew it would go close to threatening his chub PB of 8lb 2oz... and he wasn’t far off!
