Jon Scoey was left stunned on a recent session on the middle Severn, where he banked this clonking 7lb 1oz chub.
He told Angling Times:
“I was after barbel at the time, and while there’s always a chance of a chub, they’re never normally this size! The bailiff says it’s only the second one over 7lb that he knows of from the stretch, and I’ve certainly never seen a fish quite like it. It was huge!
“No doubt it’ll be pushing 8lb come winter, because it was clearly spawned out. These are really encouraging times for the Severn, and I also had a few barbel up to 8lb on the day.
“I used cage feeder tactics, introducing bloodworm pellets mixed with garlic and cheese groundbait, with a 12mm boilie on a hair rig as hookbait.”
