RICHARD Archer tempted this phenomenal pike using lure tactics during a recent kayak fishing event at a Midlands reservoir.

He was fishing with a 12cm soft plastic shad when, after a few hours with little to show for his efforts, he suddenly felt a huge ‘thump’ down the rod, which then arched over fully as the huge fish made a dash for freedom.

After a number of powerful runs, it was eventually netted with the help of a fellow competitor in the event. Measuring 112cm and weighing 36lb, it is one of the three biggest pike ever landed from a kayak in this country.
