As England's largest freshwater lake, Windermere isn't for the faint-hearted, as its sheer size is off-putting to many anglers, merely because they don't know where to start.

The lake, however, does hold some incredible fish, and for those willing to put the effort in, the rewards are there for the taking. Harry Hornsby was the latest visitor to bank one of its giants, in the shape of this cracking 24lb 1oz pike.

“I caught this beautiful pike from Lake Windermere. My sardine hookbait had only been out for an hour when my bite alarm screamed, and I struck into what felt like a log!

“I knew from the off that it was a good fish, judging by the bend in the rod. My hope was that it’d go past the 20lb mark, which it did!

It gave me the biggest adrenaline rush. Fishing these wild lakes can be hard, but it’s so rewarding.”
