TOM GOTOBED’S recent session at a commercial fishery underlined the wonderful unpredictability of angling when he caught this huge 4lb perch using an expander pellet!
The Lincolnshire angler was pole fishing at Lakeside Fisheries, near Wisbech in Cambridgeshire, and had already caught a steady stream of skimmers when he connected with something much heavier.
“To start with I thought it was a big bream,” he told us.
“It hung down deep and plodded around before suddenly waking up and snagging me in the margins. I gave the fish a bit of pressure and when it eventually came out and I saw it was a perch, I was in a bit of shock.
"It was the last thing I expected to hook on a pellet!”
