FEW anglers have a better track record with big roach than Alan Storey – and the Dorset angler has been at it again, banking this immaculate fish of 3lb 3oz from a southern chalk stream.
Targeting the edge of a crease, he fished a small cage feeder plugged with hemp and caster, and fed two balls of the same as loosefeed before starting to fish.
After being pestered by small chub and dace on maggot hookbaits, he switched to double caster, but lost a good roach shortly after.
Then, 20 minutes later, he had an incredibly delicate bite on his 2oz glass quivertip and connected with what turned out to be yet another ‘three’. Alan used 0.12mm line straight through to a size 18 Wide Gape hook.
