Andrew Knots couldn't have asked for a better start to the new river season than this 7lb 4oz chub, which he caught whilst lure fishing.
He told Angling Times:
“On the morning of June 16, before work, my plan was to target chub in fast water using small hard crank-type lures on the Trent around Newark.
“I was chucking my lure around for about 10 minutes and in the second peg I had my first bite. For couple of minutes into the fight I wasn’t sure if it was a barbel, a good pike or a monster chub, as the fish was taking line while powering downstream, then turning and starting its way back up.
“Finally, once the fish was close enough but still in that boiling water, I just managed to see that all-important black trim on its tail and I knew I had something special on the end. Luckily for me, victory was mine shortly afterwards and this old and very fat chub lay in the net.
“What a start to the season!”
