Luncheon meat hookbaits produces remarkable barbel session

A whole host of baits can produce the goods for barbel on the Trent, but Jerry Saltwell kept things simple on his latest session, fishing a chunk of luncheon meat on a size six hook to catch this fine 17lb’er alongside half a dozen others.

Nicking a PVA bag containing the classic mix of hemp and chopped meat onto his hook before every cast helped Jerry to keep the swim primed, and alongside the big one he landed barbel of 13lb 13oz, 12lb 4oz, 11lb 15oz, and a trio of smaller fish over a memorable 24-hour session.
